WELCOME TO BAGELS AND MATZO

A blog for Jewish people just like you.

As the Lubavitcher Rebbe once said, “To be kind is more important than to be right. Many times, what people need is not a brilliant mind that speaks but a special heart that listens”; I am here to do just that. Bagels and Matzo serves as a vessel to project my passion for Judaism, and clue in my loyal readers as to how to get to know and understand their Judaism and their connection with HaShem. You may contact me if you want the authority to write an article!

Am I still Jewish if I don't believe in G-d?

Updated: Dec 17, 2018

This is a commonly asked question and it needs to be answered. Here's the short answer: YES! If you are ethnically Jewish, and you share a common ancestor (Abraham) with the rest of the Jewish nation, then yes, you are Jewish! Judaism is an ethno religion, meaning the Jewish people share a religion and an ethnicity. You might be a convert, so you're religiously Jewish but not ethnically Jewish. In your case, you are ethnically Jewish but not religiously Jewish. Either way, you are Jewish (even more Jewish than converts, in the eyes of many Orthodox Jews). There are also many, many famous secular Jews, like Adam Sandler, Natalie Portman, Barbra Streisand, Scarlett Johansson, Mila Kunis, and Marilyn Monroe! So you are certainly Jewish.

Adam Sandler is a secular Jew!
